Detox Tips from Farmtrue: A Comprehensive 7-Day Spring Cleansing Guide

Spring is a time of renewal, growth, and transformation. It is a perfect time to let go of the old and make way for the new. Spring cleaning is not just about cleaning your house but also cleansing your body and mind.

In the previous article, we shared the fundamentals of spring cleansing. Now that you have everything you need to know for a successful spring cleanse, it’s time to put all those into practice.

This blog post will provide you with a comprehensive 7-day spring cleansing guide to help you detoxify your body and rejuvenate your mind.

Day 1 - Preparation

The first day of your cleanse is all about preparation. Take the time to clean up your diet and prepare your body to let go of unwanted toxins. You may need more time to transition into a cleanse, and that's okay.

Some people use 4-7 days to eliminate foods and prepare to cleanse. Proper preparation is imperative for an effective and enjoyable cleanse.

Ghee is an essential component of the cleanse. Upon waking, drink 2 tsp of melted ghee on an empty stomach.

Meal plan:

Breakfast:

Gluten-free organic oats and sauteed apples with cinnamon and ghee

Lunch:

Quinoa and sauteed vegetables in ghee

Dinner:

Vegetable soup or sweet potato curry

Snack:

2-4 organic apples throughout the day

Tea:

Tulsi, CCF, and fresh ginger tea

Day 2 - Kitchari

Enter kitchari. This will be your best friend for the rest of your spring cleanse period.

Kitchari is a traditional Ayurvedic dish that is made from a combination of basmati rice, split mung beans, and various spices. It is a staple in Ayurvedic cuisine and is known for its healing properties.

Kitchari is easy to digest and is believed to help improve digestion and elimination. It is also best for supporting the immune system and balancing the body’s doshas (vata, pitta, kapha). You can also personalize your kitchari with different vegetables, herbs, and spices of your choice.

Upon waking, drink 4 tsp of melted ghee on an empty stomach.

Meal plan:

Breakfast:

Kitchari with sauteed apples, ghee, and a warming spice blend

Lunch:

Traditional kitchari made with vegetables of your choice and topped with fresh herbs

Dinner:

Day 7 - Transition Day

Congratulations! You made it to your last day. Give yourself a tap on the back for a job well done. Not it’s time to transition back to your regular diet slowly.

If you feel good and strong, you can continue the kitchari cleanse for up to 3 more days.

If you are ready to move on, slowly introduce other clean foods back into your diet while still avoiding dairy, gluten, sugar, eggs, soy, corn, red meat, alcohol, and caffeine. Keeping these foods out of your diet for a few more days will help your body continue cleansing and healing.

Meal plan:

Tips to make your spring cleanse more exciting

While cleansing is a powerful way to support the body's natural detoxification processes, it can also feel restrictive and monotonous at times. But fear not. There are many ways to make your spring cleanse more exciting and enjoyable!

Here are some tips and ideas for changing your diet and self-care routine to stay motivated and inspired throughout your cleansing journey.

Tip # 1: Change up your kitchari

  1. Add vegetables! Particularly those appropriate for this season. You can view our Seasonal Foods List for inspiration.
  2. Try using a different flavor of our ghee. The garlic scape or vanilla maple chai can give you the nutritional benefits of ghee and add a delicious flavor to your kitchari.
  3. Make your kitchari sweet using our warming spice blend, cinnamon, and sauteed apples.
  4. Top your kitchari with fresh herbs such as cilantro, parsley, or dill.

Tip #2: Morning Routines - Cleaning the Sense Organs

In addition to changing your diet, cleaning your sense organs is essential. Wait to turn on electronics until after you complete your morning routine.

Stretch by raising your hands to the sky and taking a deep breath before getting up.

Tongue Scraping

Tongue scraping helps to remove ama and prevents the body from recognizing what we are eating, creating more ama. Clean your tongue 5-10 times with a copper tongue scraper before brushing your teeth.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is optional but beneficial. Having a bowel movement is also essential. Using a stool to prop your knees up helps tremendously with this process. Wash your face, brush your teeth, and perform a nasal cleanse.

Nasal Cleansing

For nasal cleansing, Neti and Nasya are the two most popular methods. Neti is the process of cleaning the nasal passages. Add a 1/4 tsp of salt to warm water in a neti pot.

Tilt the head, place the tip of the pot's spout in one nostril, and allow the water to flow into that nostril and out the other. The mouth should be open.

After using a Neti Pot, hydrate the nasal passages with Nasya oil. You can warm the oil by placing the bottle in a cup of warm water.

To apply, tilt your head back or lay on the edge of a couch or sofa. Place 2-4 drops of oil in each nostril and sniff.

It is normal to taste the oil in the back of your throat or have some drop out of your nose a minute or two afterward, but you can try to avoid this with a quick, deep sniff.

Tip # 3: Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a full-body oil massage that can be performed daily, best in the morning, to protect the nervous system.

Before applying oil, use garshana gloves to perform a lymphatic massage on dry skin. Using long strokes towards the heart, this gentle self-massage will assist the body in cleansing.

After using garshana gloves or dry brushing, massage oil into the skin with circular motions over the belly and joints and long strokes along the limbs towards the heart. Let the oil absorb into the skin for 20 minutes. You can meditate during this time.

Once absorbed, take a warm shower so that the oil can deeply penetrate the tissues.

Tip #4: Meditation

The seven-day kitchari cleanse is a gentle yet powerful way to detox and reset your body. Following the recommended diet and cleansing routines lets you let go of unwanted toxins, improve digestion, and feel lighter and more energetic.

Preparation goes hand in hand with incorporating some meditation into your routine. Whether you practice meditation consistently every day for a specific duration or simply remind yourself to take a few deep breaths when stress levels increase, meditation can be instrumental in ensuring a successful and restorative cleanse.

Conclusion

The seven-day spring cleanse with kitchari is a gentle yet powerful way to detox and reset your body. Following the recommended diet and cleansing routines lets you let go of unwanted toxins, improve digestion, and feel lighter and more energetic.

Do not discount the importance of proper preparation for an effective and enjoyable cleanse. Take the time to prepare your body and mind before starting.
